Ethics

It’s a matter of Ethics.

Advancing Philanthropy, a magazine published by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, provides practical information, useful tools and other resources to help members succeed and advance.

We were tasked with crafting custom designs for the article An Illustrated Guide to Ethical Problems in their Fall 2017 issue. After collaborating with Susan Drake Swift (AFP’s Director of Content Strategy) we took inspiration from Precisionism, a 1930’s American art movement that glorified the new architectural and industrial landscape that emerged after WW1. Similar to Cubism, the geometry-heavy aesthetic was a nice choice to illustrate the pitfalls of modern greed and other unethical practices.

We were originally commissioned to illustrate seven images for these ethics areas:

  1. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
  2. GIFT ACCEPTANCE POLICY
  3. ACCOUNTABILITY
  4. TAINTED MONEY
  5. DONOR PRIVACY
  6. COMPENSATION
  7. COOKING THE BOOKS

The “book cooking” design was not used in the final article.
